THE PRACTICAL TAKEAWAY

Start here.

Build review into the brief and source collection, as well as the final draft. Correct prose is only one part of useful content.

Approve the question first

Give each article one reader and one decision. A brief about choosing a prospecting tool needs a different evidence standard from an introductory glossary. Define what the reader should be able to do after reading.

Write a short acceptance test: the article must answer this question, explain these limitations and provide this usable next step. This keeps editing focused on the purpose of the work.

Separate sources from drafting

Collect the source material before generating a polished narrative. For every important statement, retain a source link, the date checked and the relevant evidence. Mark observations, third-party claims and your own interpretation separately.

  • An editor approves the question and scope.
  • A researcher collects and checks the supporting material.
  • AI can help organise notes and propose structure.
  • A responsible reviewer checks the interpretation and every consequential claim.

Review the claims, then the prose

Read the draft once for factual support and once for the reader’s experience. Ask whether the evidence actually supports each conclusion, whether qualifications survived the draft, and whether an example is clearly illustrative.

Then remove repetition and make the instructions specific. A smooth sentence should never conceal uncertainty. Keep a short record of questions that remain unresolved.

Give the page an update trigger

Decide what would make the piece stale: a product change, an expired price, a changed policy or contradictory findings. Assign a reviewer and a sensible revisit date.

This workflow is an editorial proposal. Adapt the checks to your subject and risk. Google’s people-first content guidance is a useful external reference when reviewing whether a page contributes original value and serves a clear audience.

ORIGINAL SOURCES & FURTHER READING
